“Conspiring” (to breathe) :::

NAT Chantel + Troll Dolly

“Conspiring” (to breathe) is a sound and performance piece by artists NAT chantel and Troll Dolly (Jen Yakamovich), created during isolation on Mi’kmaq and Snuneymuxw territories.

What began as a series of back-and-forth file sharing transformed into a coast-to-coast collaboration— an emergent “call and response”.

Living on opposite coasts, Chantel and Yakamovich wanted to explore how energy could be felt at a distance in both the presence and absence of sound. How could the two meet one another through responsive composition and performance? What do those rhythms of their coming-together sound like? Drawing from the idea of “conspire”, which derives from Latin “to breathe together” and now translates to “work-with” or “hatch a plot”, they asked: how can we breathe together across time and space? How do we resound even in separation?

The artists would like to thank EVERYSEEKER festival for supporting this piece. Further gratitude go to Shilo Preshyon,

and Willow Sereda-Meichel.
